Abstract
This report deals with clinical aspects in 24 cases of the primary carcinoma of the gallbladder and 25 cases of the extrahepatic bile ducts except ampulla of Vater containing 1 case of
combined carcinoma of gallbladder and common hepatic duct, which were confirmed with operation at Severance Hospital during 11 years of period from Feb.1964 to Feb. 1975.
The diagnosis of these. ialignancies is still; nnfortunatsly, a delayed diagnosis; so that radical, curative surgery is the exception rather than the rule, therefore, the prognosis is very poor.
In our hospital, these diseases account for about 2.4% in the ¢¥carcinoma of the gallbladder and 2.5% in extrahepatic bile ducts of all malignancies of the hepatobiliary tract, and 0, 8% of all malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract, each. And gallstones were found in 37.5% of carcinoma of gallbladder and, 24% of that of extrahepatic bile ducts.
The sex and age incidence in our series were prominant in female of 7 decades. The prominant symptoms and signs were abdominal pain, jaundice and tenderness in upper abdomen.
The curative resection was 25% of the carcinoma of the gallbladder and 8% of the extrahepatic bile ducts.
The longest survival was above 4 years in the carcinoma of the gallbladder and 2 years and 1 month in that of the extrahepatic bile ducts and the former is still alive.
